My rating is as it pertains to Sushi Bar. It might be rated higher as a Japanese Steak House. A friend told me to go there for sushi. I am sorry I did. I went on a Wed night in January. Seaweed Salad and Miso Soup were great and I thought I had a find. They were almost out of every fish. Very small portions in the case. I asked about toro -- "we only have that during race week". No uni. I literally wrapped up and went to finish dinner at Steak 'n Shake with a yummy cheeseburger. Serious. A pet peeve of mine: not being able to order from the sushi chef. You must do the paper order and give it to a waitress. Another pet peeve: they don't hand you what is made; they hold all unti the full order is ready. Amateurs. OK, I give them props for the Volcano Roll. A good one. Great building; great decor; go for the birthday party at the grill but skip for sushi. Remember: it's called Japanese Steak House. Sushi in Daytona? Go to Ronin.

I remember this building going up. I was so excited to see the architecture and really wanted to experience the space as well as the materials that were used in the construction of this building. Going inside, I was not disappointed at the visual and spatial effects that were present. You enter into a large waiting area with hostess stand that serves as a spatial pivot for the exterior seating, the teppanyaki area, and the bar/dining room. I am not a big fan of teppanyaki (with the exception of Beni Hana), but I do love me some sushi and love the lighting and visual stops present in the bar/dining area. I am constantly in search of a Spicy Tekka Don everywhere I go. There is just something about the proper composition of ingredients melding into a whole -- so many juxtapositions. Takeya holds a special place for me since the older Sushi Chef is more than happy to make my tekka don specially for me. He said that no one has asked for one since he left Japan; I think lack of knowledge on the part of Americans plays a big roll. The price is a tad steep for what I am used to paying for the Spicy Tekka Don, but the tuna is always good, the spicy mayo wonderful, and the wakame, avocado and rice just pull it all together. I love coming back.

Went to this place because reviews on Yelp. Decor is cool and beautiful, but overall disappointing. Krab? Imitation seafood? If you don't know about Escolar (white tuna), you should google it and read about it. I ordered cold sake. It did not come. I ordered it again and the bartender apologized for not bringing it and promises to return. No sake. The waiter comes over and explains he is alone on the floor. I asked him to check on the sake and too many minutes later, he delivers. Came for sushi, but after reviewing ingredients, decided to go with hot items. Edamame was soggy, coconut curry mussels were delicious. Lettuce wraps were OK. Entree was flavorless. My pet peeve....stacking the dishes at the table when clearing. He did a huge messy pile..... such a turn off and gauche. I cannot recommend this place.

I have been here before and I decided to take my mom for dinner since she had never been. It was really good food and we had fun. Our chef was funny and great. Our waitress was super nice. The decor was really nice, I definitely recommend.

Although I have not tried every place in Daytona, I have been to a lot and so far this place is as good as it get's. It's always fun with great service and food cooked in front of you. Outstanding inside and out.

Went here for my birthday with my husband. We got hibachi, the food was yummy. I got chicken and my husband got beef. We love hibachi, and they didn't disappoint.

Great option for hibachi in the Daytona area. The ambiance was pleasant and the food did not disappoint. I dined in for hibachi, not sushi, and ordered the chicken filet combo. This entree came with clear soup, salad, fried rice, and vegetables. Tip for the wise: the yum yum sauce is everything. Request it as salad dressing as a sub for the usual boring ginger.

i will tell you something you probably wont believe, but the japanese steak houses in Louisville Kentucky would shut this place down. even the so so ones. the inside is decorated beautifully

For this small town.....the decoration of this restaurant is so unique. Must see! Waiting area for seating is very roomy. We ordered the Shaking beef with water crest / tomato salad and the beef was melting in my mouth! This was the chef's special which was not on the menu. I am not so much of a raw food eater but OMG!!! I started with seared tuna top with avocado. The fine shredded carrot, ginger and a touch of Srirachi sauce in addition to Wasabi sauce made it perfect! Highly recommend! We also had Chirash Sushi which has assort of fishes. They are were so fresh and the food presentation is superb

Ormond beach? I can't believe a restaurant that is this nice is in Ormond Beach. The food was great, everything was hot,the waiter was very polite, our cook Mikey was awesome and very entertaining. The ambience was fantastic and even the lighting was impressive. The bathrooms look like they belong in a five-star hotel or restaurant. shame on me for never coming here before!!!

I gave Takeya another shot, this time on the hibachi side, and I can say I'd go back again. The steak I had was amazing, and the service was great. It was also my birthday so I got a free dinner by coming with a large group.

Food and service was amazing!! It was busy because of New Year's Eve, but the waiters and waitresses more than made up for the fact that we had to wait almost 45 min for the table. We hung out by the bar, ordering drinks and sushi until they were able to seat us. Our waitress was AWESOME!! Lindsay was super friendly and on the ball 100% of the time making sure we were taken care of during our entire meal.

We waited 50 mins to get seated after calling ahead 15 mins to get on the list. The food is the same as anywhere no different than any other hibachi. The building is unique and the decor is elegant and artistic. They give free dinner on your birthday with a party of six so lots of loud gong banging and singing. The server was prompt and checked in frequently.

Being a loyal to Kobe Japanese in Orlando, I wasn't to easily convinced that I wanted to give Takeya a try. As soon as I walked in, I noticed the place looked futuristic; though I was walking into a club down in Miami. Once seated at the hibachi station, I went straight for the sake menu. I was bummed to see what a poor selection of drinks; ended up going with the peach sake which was ok. The hibachi cook was professional and cooked everything to perfection. The rice had to be the best part of the meal; added the white sauce on top. Overall our visit was pleasant and nothing too crazy for prices. I will probably be back and give Takeya another visit on a special occasion. P.S. I overheard someone say the sushi isn't great. Hibachi is the way to go!

Have been going to Takeya since moving to Ormond Beach over 6 years ago and have always had an excellent experience. Service is impeccable, friendly, efficient and they really appreciate your business. Food is always top quality, served hot and with wonderful presentation. Although it is pricey, it is worth treating yourself and the family, especially on special occasions.

I ventured out to Takeya and boy was I glad that I did! My husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a Japanese dinner. I had basic sushi rolls: Spicy Tuna and California, and steamed gyoza. I played it pretty safe. My husband had a dish that was a pan-Asian chicken dish with a wonderful blend of fresh flavors! Enjoyed my meal here. Nice decor. Tasty food. Excellent service. Pricy.

The new building and location off of I-95 is beautiful. The atmosphere is great and the service wonderful. They have some very interesting sushi rolls that I never see anywhere else and when we want an upscale sushi place this is where we go. Take your time and enjoy the views.

Went there with a Daytona friend. Very cool looking building with a gorgeous interior. Took a couple minutes to be seated. A little longer to get drinks and have order taken. My hubbie ordered the takeya specialm which is lobster, shrimp, and steak. (37 ish) I ordered the steak and calamari (22 ish). It comes with a soup and salad appetizer. You watch a little show from the chef, which is always fun. My 5 year old was entertained. Food was amazing, white sauce (looks orange) makes everything taste that much better. ;) Worth the money!

Pricey and more about atmosphere since they moved to the new location with the fancy building. I noticed as soon as they announced the were building a new place the prices went up and the portion sizes shrank. Long waits, LOUD and over crowded. Food is good, but I can go else where. I liked them b4 they got all trendy.

I like Japanese food... a lot, and there's nothing like a good Japanese place that serves good Chirashi. The sushi was pretty fresh, obviously not grade A, but very good. In addition, they give conch. This is slightly rare in the US, but I guess since it's known to that region, that might be the case. At $20 I think it's priced very well with a nice big portion. He gives you the option of having it in a traditional Chirashi box or a plate. The plate definitely looks prettier but to each their own.

My husband isn't into sushi so will order from the teppanyaki menu, but will have a few bites of sushi. The decor is contemperary and the atmoshere is romantic at the sushi area. With the new location it sefinatelly earned more points for looks. I wish they would add a few more menu options. Other than that great. Unless you get a lazy cook. There is one in paticullar that tends to burn the rice.
I love this restaurant! great atmosphere, the sushi was fresh and delicious! I finally found a place for japanese food. the only disappointment was i didn't get the sea urchin sushi, coz they all sold out. :( but that also meant its a top seller sushi, very fresh. I just cannot wait to go back. the price was pretty expansive, but i guaranteed its so worth it.
